Submit to Google Search Console

Once your job board is up and running, you have the option to submit your website to Google Search Console. This free tool provided by Google offers site owners various features to assess their website’s performance. It provides valuable insights into the keywords and search queries driving traffic to your site, as well as information about which pages are being indexed and displayed in Google search results. Moreover, Google Search Console can help you evaluate the performance of your job postings in Google for Jobs.

To add your job board to Google Search Console, follow these steps:

  1. Visit Google Search Console
  2. Click on the “Add a property” button located under the search drop-down menu.

You can either add the full domain (encompassing all pages, subdomains, and both https and http versions) or specify the exact URL of your job board (e.g., https://myjobboard.com). Opting for the exact URL will also include indexing for all related pages beyond the URL prefix, like https://myjobboard.com/contact-us, https://myjobboard.com/about-us, and so on.

NOTE: the URL PREFIX option is advisable for your job board since it will allow HTML file verification method to be used to verify site ownership

NOTES:

  • Please make sure you enter your complete URL. If you site has a slash (/) at the end, you need to include that too, e.g. https://myjobboard.com/

Settings: SEO: SEO Dashboard

2.3. Scroll down to FILES section on this page and click the ADD FILE button

2.4. In Path field type in the name of the file you downloaded from Google’s verification window. It should start with google and end with .html;

In Content field type in the following

google-site-verification: {name of the file from previous field}

2.5. Click on SAVE button to submit changes. Then go back to Google Search Console verification tab in your browser and click the VERIFY button.

3. After your property has been successfully submitted and verified by Google, you can begin monitoring the overall traffic and performance of your website.

For improved indexing outcomes, go to the Sitemaps tab in the left navigation tree within the Google Search Console tool. On the right side of the screen, you should see your job board’s URL. Enter sitemap.xml into the input field and then click on the SUBMIT button.

That’s it! Google will start crawling your job board’s pages and job postings on a regular basis.

When will my website show up in search results of google and other search engines

This is how we see it:

Step 1: “Any critical roadblocks?”

Check whether your home page, key landing pages and jobs are indexed/cached and job content share is unique. Based on this test proved positive, your job board application website has no major roadblocks for spiders and can actually make it to top 10.

Step 2: “Competition comparison”

Confirm target keyword combinations and progress to keyword density on homepage and relevant internal pages, site structure, link anchors, amount of relevant and unique content, frequency of updates, links on trusted websites, your current positions and compare to the same factors of top 10 competitor sites on Google. The time to match those and waiting period for next content reindexing is your target timeframe.

Generic reply on average timeframe would be:

New websites / domains:

Search engines usually take up to 3 month to update indexes and rankings. After initial sandbox period is passed, based on your website being well optimized and content is unique: you will start getting positions for less competitive keywords initially, then growing for more popular ones within next 3-6 months.

New pages added to current site:

Getting the jobs and new landing pages of your job board application to the first pages of search engines might take from 2-3 days to months based on competition, uniqueness of the content and your website optimization (see more on matching competition above).
